What is being done to prevent Rook damage to the course?
In order to discourage Rooks from digging up fairways and damaging greens various pieces of bird scaring equipment are being used, along with rope bangers and a gas gun to keep the birds off the ground. Shooting is also taking place on the course and its boundaries.
The Rooks are causing the damage as they dig for leather jackets (crane fly larvae) and chafer grubs. Please also see the FAQs titled ‘What is done to control grubs and insect larvae on the course?’ and ‘What is done to control grubs and insect larvae on the greens?’
