Why do the greenkeepers only work on a..(Insert your favourite weekday here)..?
It is a popular misconception that the green keepers only work on certain days of the week. The full green keeping staff work every weekday, with one green keeper working at weekends to cut the greens and tees and perform other urgent maintenance as time allows. We also try to employ casual workers to rake bunkers at weekends. In general, work on Fridays is geared towards preparing the course for the weekend, and Mondays are used for post weekend maintenance. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are used for general course maintenance and project work as required/scheduled. The work being performed will vary throughout the year and will often be dependent on weather conditions, and at certain times of the year will be slightly more disruptive than at others. In general, heavy maintenance of the course is avoided on a Tuesday where feasibly possible, as this is when the Ladies section hold some of their competitions, but this is subject to the work programme at any particular time and the forecast weather conditions.
