Mens Golf at Alresford
Alresford does not operate a tee reservation system for casual or competition play and whilst this may seem to be a recipe for chaos, it is a tried and tested system that works for the members at Alresford. This allows for everyone to have an opportunity to play at the peak times should they so desire. A little flexibility around your meeting and proposed start times is expected and so if there happens to be a queue on the tee when you arrive – a cup of coffee or a little time practicing on the adjacent practice areas is recommended.
Men’s competitions take place mainly on Saturdays and/or Sundays and then either a Wednesday or Friday for any weekday competitions. Your competition round can be played at any time during the day. Saturday mornings are inevitably and regularly the busiest time of the week, but weekend afternoons can offer ‘millionaire’s golf’ especially in the summer months.
The only time the tee is reserved is for a golf society booking, team match or occasionally a large pre-booked competition field. Details of any tee restrictions can be found on the various tee reservation information boards (Pro-Shop and 1st tee) and the website diary. Men are also requested to be aware that Tuesday mornings are the main time for the Ladies Section to play their competitions and so are encouraged to play outside of the 9.00 – 11.00am time slots.
To assist all new members to both integrate and achieve an official handicap, we have roll-ups (11.00am Wednesdays), social competitions and many social events.
The numerous club and inter club competitions will challenge players of all levels and include:
- Medal and stableford for both the weekday and weekends
- Board competitions on the basis of medal, stableford and matchplay
- Hampshire 7’s for the lower handicapper
- Gales/Hockley over 50s knockout
- Friendly matches against other clubs for all levels of handicap
- Mixed matches within the club and also against other clubs
- Club championship over 2 days incorporating both scratch and handicap
- Invitation days to invite a friend
- Club competitions throughout the winter to keep the competitive spirit alive
Members are entitled to bring guests to the club and are permitted to ‘sign in’ up to 3 guests at any one time at a reduced green fee. For those bringing guests regularly, a discounted card offering a block of 6 or 10 visits is available from the Secretary.
