Hampshire ‘Prep’ School Golfers visit Alresford

On a January Sunday afternoon, eleven Hampshire ‘prep’ school golfers, all under 12 yrs, played in a Texas Scramble event organised by Alresford Golf Club Head Professional Malcolm Scott. Seven teams altogether comprising of the Hampshire Junior ‘prep’ school squad members and supplemented by Alresford Juniors and other members battled it out over 9 holes in a closely-fought contest.

Overall winners were the Alresford Club Captain Les Thorne and his team of Arvand Singh-Barr, William Briggs and Finlay Parker with a score of 29.1. All the teams then enjoyed Alresford’s hospitality after the golf with a hot meal and presentation of the prizes. The competition had been originally postponed due to the bad weather before Christmas and so all the juniors were presented with belated Christmas presents.

The Hampshire Junior ‘prep’ school has been devised to bridge the gap between the County Academy Programme (CAP) and School of Excellence coaching to enable more talented youngsters to benefit from structured coaching. Boys come from all over the county including the Isle of Wight to take part.

Hampshire County Junior golfers, both boys and girls, have a close association with Alresford Golf Club with regular development squad coaching and training taking place at the club’s excellent practice facilities.
